Veterans Mental Health Clinic Opening

Dr. Marshall Thomas, executive director of the Johnson Depression Center, said veterans face multiple barriers to access to mental-health services, including high costs, a lack of insurance coverage and health professionals who don’t always understand the cultural issues veterans bring to their experiences. The new Cohen Clinic, under the umbrella of the Johnson Depression Center, not only will seek to remove those obstacles but will make an effort to let itself be known in its community, in order to attract the attention of suffering veterans who might not necessarily be looking for help.

“We’re not going to be sitting around and waiting for people to come to us,” said Thomas, a professor of psychiatry and family medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. “We will be going out into the community to find them.”
