Anxiety Program

Welcome to the Anxiety Program at the Johnson Depression Center where our providers are equipped with the best tools to help people overcome anxiety.

Anxiety may be one of the most crippling experiences; however with effective, evidenced-based treatment, people do get better and these gains can last a lifetime.

While our providers may vary in their approaches, they understand that the core of effective treatment involves elements of exposure. The principle behind exposure treatment can be seen in the metaphor of learning any skill.

Take skiing as an example: If all you did was talk about skiing, how effective of a skier would you ever be? The only way to become an expert skier is to ski. Anxiety treatment works the same way—first you learn the skills to ski, then we use those skills to help you tackle your own mountains.

Another advantage to our approach is that we have many ways to help people tackle anxiety. This can include:

  • Telehealth: face-to-face therapy conducted online at a person’s home, if the home is where the anxiety is primarily present, or for convenience if the clinic is too far away for in-person therapy
  • Virtual reality: transport to any place, situation or environment in the world
  • Group therapy: learn the skills with others who experience anxiety, which helps them experience that they are not alone
  • Boot camps: intensive group workshops for people who do not have the time to commit to weekly therapy

Our Anxiety Program also focuses on and serves all ages, and providers teach effective skills in developmentally appropriate ways. For younger ages, typically parent involvement is a key part of the process with parents learning side by side with their children.
